Change Matrix

Sometimes, as a manager, you have to make drastic changes on how to conduct business. Please never ever believe that a one-time logical and compelling explanation to your staff will be effective in achieving the change.

Change is not easy and most of us need to experience, and that is the way you need to plan, continuous stimulus from different sources, not only from you as a manager.

Take for example that you wish to introduce a good set of company values to your staff. The following could be a good plan:

Boss
Let your boss introduce the company values to your team.

You
- be a role model by living the values (change).
- EVERYTIME when you praise or reprimand, link back to the values (change).
- If appropriate, link back to values when delegating.
- Include living the values in the staff’s KPI’s and discuss during every review. I think if you don’t put it into the KPI’s you have little chance to succeed with the targeted change.

Team
- During every team meeting, set aside a few minutes and let team members share examples when they ‘lived up to the values’ or ‘forgot about it’.
- Let an opinion leader develop his / her own activities.
- Have a blog / Facebook site.

Please remember - frequent activities at different levels and change can happen. Don’t be surprised if it takes 6-9 months before you see the change. Any change needs consistent follow up.
