Stop to Stop Thinking

I recently had a nice tennis match with one of my buddies. I lost. As we talked about our match during a drink after the game, he made a comment like ‘You must always think how to construct your game in order to win a point.’ And I thought that this was a very timely reminder.

How often do we start with something? We have a pretty good idea what we want to achieve and then we just do. We routinely do and stop thinking. Of course, I don’t want to insinuate that you don’t think, although …. I must admit that it does happen to me:

I start my workday and attend to issues ‘as they come’ without thinking clearly about the priorities first.

I may concentrate on an important piece of work, but as soon as I see a message that I have some new emails coming in, I stop (thinking) and check the new emails.

I have a discussion with another person and this person says something unpleasant to me and I just counterattack (without thinking properly about my answer first)

It may happen to you. So, I think it is good advice

Keep on thinking

- Every morning – What are my priorities for the day / week?

- During a conversation – What do I want to achieve? And model my conversation in line with what I want to achieve.

- Frequently on whatever we do. Do I achieve what I want to achieve? Am I on track? Is there anything that I need to do differently?
