Respect

We all want respect to a good degree. However, somehow I notice that certain people talk much more about wanting to be respected and those are really the ones I, indeed, respect less. (For obvious reason I am not mentioning names). Why do they need so much repect from others? Are they not sure of themsleves?

Anyway, here is my thought. If I have sufficient self-respect then I don’t need too much respect from others. Self-respect derives from being able to look into the mirror and like the person looking back at you. Why would you like this person? Because it is a decent person. Sure, may have some imperfections. But these imperfections don’t harm anybody, are neither unethical nor illegal. Otherwise, treating everybody fairly, doing a good job, and enjoying a good degree of success in line with the amount of effort and work put into it.

If I can say this about myself, I am fine, and I don’t need an overdose of respect from others.
