Last year I did a new exercise with my seminar participants, most of them being middle managers.
I asked them to tell me three traits which they respected / liked about their current or previous bosses and three traits that they disliked / disrespected. So far, I have collected 500 answers. Most frequently mentioned are:
LIKE & RESPECT
- Caring / supportive
- Knowledgeable / competent
- Appreciative / showing respect
- Good coaching skills and giving guidance when required
- Transparent and open communication
DISLIKE & DISRESPECT
- Lack of courage / indecisive
- Unfair / prejudice / favouritism
- Micro manage
- Lack of direction / guidance / planning
- Overly domineering
